What Happens When You Apply a Bentonite Clay & Apple Cider Vinegar Face Mask

Pin It Now!

  Clay Mask

When I came across this post from Organic Christian Living, I thought I'd give this 2-ingredient face mask a try. I had both ingredients on hand, and who doesn't want detoxed skin and tightened pores?!

So, here's what happened to my face when I applied a bentonite clay & apple cider vinegar face mask. Except for cropping, none of the pictures have been edited at all. (To be clear, my hair is never this greasy. ;) I put coconut oil in it before I applied my mask.)

I HATE no-makeup selfies, or any of my selfies for that matter, but here ya go up close and way too personal:

Face Mask Steps

Pic 1: Oh my - looks like a cave troll sneezed on me! I took this right after I applied the bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar mixture to my face. I applied 2 coats since it went on pretty thin. I'm not sure I'd do that again because I think it affected drying time.

Pic 2: Mask is beginning to dry. My eyes are watering more than normal due to the apple cider vinegar burn. It's not a painful burn, though. I promise I'm not drooling - silly me decided to brush my teeth while I waited for the mask to dry.

Pic 3: Starting to look and feel like a reptile. Up close the dried mask has a scale-like appearance and really brings attention to all my  fine lines. Exciting, huh? The drier the mask gets, the tighter it feels on my face. My left eye wouldn't stop watering, so the mask underneath my eye never completely dried.

Pic 4: Even though I was warned that my face might get a little red,  I was slightly shocked at how red my face and neck were after I washed off the mask with warm water. Looks like I fell asleep out in the desert sun. I totally felt like Bob the Tomato, and I was a bit worried that I'd left the mask on for too long. Yikes!

Pic 5: So, this is my face after spending about 20-25 minutes in the shower. Whew - looks less red, although still a bit pink. My hopes were high that my face might in fact return to normal. Disappointed that the mask didn't remove my freckles, though.

Pic 6: I finished my normal face-washing routine and dried my hair. So this pic shows my face about 45 minutes after washing off the mask. Pretty much back to normal. Darn, I was hoping for a complete face transplant. Seriously, though, my skin felt great, and I was pleased with the results. Can't wait to do it again!

Try the Mask for Yourself

If you'd also like to try this mask, see Organic Christian Living's post: Bentonite Clay + Apple Cider Vinegar Recovery Mask. You will learn about the benefits of bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar and find out how to mix the ingredients to make a face mask. Here are links to the ingredients I used:

Redmond Clay is a bentonite clay. I had the first one on hand. The second one is the same but a new look, according to redmondclay.com.

After Clay Mask

Last pic is of my unedited face with a lightweight application of makeup. Yay for tighter pores!!

Now, please tell me if you know of an all-natural, freckle-removing face mask or of a nose-shape altering face mask. That'd be great!
