Welcome to Literacy Musing Mondays May 1-6
*note: turned here means addled.
Even though I love to read and think very highly of all things literacy, I have to say, YES, one can be too fond of books and read too much. Sometimes reading can keep me from doing something else I need to be doing. Reading is SO in my comfort zone, but reading too much can keep me from trying something new. And, if I’m honest, I don’t always like to try new things or push myself to do something different because I’m afraid of failure.
A year and a half ago, I had to tell myself, “NO more reading any books until you start and finish illustrating your first children’s book!” This was extremely challenging for me because I had no clue what I was doing. But, I knew I had to push myself out of my comfort zone and say no to something I love in order to accomplish something new. Something I wanted to do but needed the motivation to do it.
Here’s another quote I found about reading too much, and I think I LOVE it. 🙂
Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking. -Albert Einstein
