Disinfect Kitchen Sponge Fast!

A few years ago my mother-in-law shared a wonderful tip with me: To get get rid of nasty germs/bacteria on your kitchen sponge, just zap it in the microwave for 20-30 seconds!! I have become pretty obsessive about it, too. I nuke it about 5 times a day, now!! (Make sure it is WET first!)

  1. Cool idea. I just recently put mine in the dishewasher after reading a post. It worked too.

  2. How smart. So what happens if you zap a dry sponge? I am envisioning that scene from "The Green Mile".

  4. That's a lot faster than sticking it in the dishwasher.

I need to do it more often.

    Thanks for the reminder-tip!

  6. Oh, wow, that has never happened to me--I only put it in there for about 20 sec. and it is always very wet!!! To me it is a lot faster than soaking it or running it through the dishwasher. Sometimes I just spray lavender water on it though, or pour boiling water on it.
