Meme Fun

Pin It Now! I just can't seem to resist a good meme. I have thought about creating my own. Sounds fun.

I found this over at Terri and her Talk, so now that my computer and I are on speaking terms again I thought I would give it a go.

1. WHO WERE YOU NAMED AFTER?
Haven't a clue. Mom, if you read this let me know.

.2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
Me cry? Never. Especially when my progesterone levels are plummeting.

3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
I think it's okay. When I write fast, it's awful!!

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
Smoked, peppered, nitrite, nitrate and preservative free turkey.

5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
Yep. 2 boys and 1 girl. Done.

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Oh yes. "Bosom friends" as Anne Shirley would say.

7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT?
I had to look up that word on Dictionary.com. Oh goodness, after reading the definition, I would have to absolutely, positively say "no". I wouldn't be caught dead speaking such foolishness.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS?
Yes!

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?
Maybe on a few conditions. Like free chiropractic care for life. Like getting paid to do it....

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CEREAL?
Right now I am in to different kinds of granola. Yum!

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
I live in flip flop land, people.

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?
I believe I will quote Rich Mullins here-- "We are not as strong as we think we are." For goodness' sake, even the Bible says I am the weaker vessel. Oh, and when it comes to chocolate--NO, NO and NO!!!

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE ICE CREAM?
I think I just about died when I had Ben and Jerry's Coconut-Almond something or other.
Store brand--has to be Breyer's or I really don't touch it. Did you know they have a flavor called Triple Chocolate?? :)

14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
Honestly, overall appearance. It is pleasing to the eyes to see someone who looks clean, cheerful and confident. If I am close enough, I notice eyes mostly I guess.

15. RED OR PINK?
Just depends. Can't choose. I love both colors for different things.

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVOURITE THING ABOUT YOU?
I hate everything about my complexion/skin. And I hate that I am so moody and perfectionistic. I could go on and on here, but I will make myself move on...

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?
Family and friends back in Tennessee

18. WHAT COLOUR PANTS AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING?
Chocolate brown shorts, and M&M flip flops with red straps

19. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE?
1/2 of a turkey sandwich

20. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?
Andy Griffith is on in the other room, although no one is watching--boys left for baseball practice.

21. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOUR WOULD YOU BE?
Don't you just love smelling a brand new box of crayola crayons? Truly I love all the colors but if you are making me choose, I would want to be the white one. It gets used the least, so I would stay perfect and beautiful the longest!!

22. FAVOURITE SMELLS
See above
I also like lavender, babies, the woods, autumny smells like pumpkin spice and cinnamon, vanilla, the candle, mad-love from Pier One. I really like pure, all natural essential oil smells, too. Even though I don't like the taste of coffee, the smell is absolutely irresistible. I like lots more, but I am getting tired.

23. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
Probably my husband

24. FAVOURITE SPORTS TO WATCH?
Do cooking and decorating count? Okay real sports-- well anything my boys play, which at the moment is baseball. Other than that, thanks but no thanks to watching sports.

25. HAIR COLOUR?
Medium brown with auburn highlights. (So far all natural--will start coloring when the gray appears.)

26. EYE COLOUR?
Dark M&M brown

27. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS?
No. Last time I had my eyes checked was probably in high school. I can tell my vision isn't as good as it was then, but it's good enough for me to keep avoiding a trip to the eye doctor-- for now at least.

28. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS?
I don't like horror films. Scary as in The Village--well I liked that. Happy endings are wonderful, too. I mean, my day would have been ruined had Sauron's ring of power not been destroyed or if Anne hadn't finally proclaimed her love to Gilbert Blythe.

29. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED?
Spiderwick

30. WHAT COLOUR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING?
Rust.

31. SUMMER OR WINTER?
I live in the desert, so I guess it will have to be winter. I'd have picked spring, but it wasn't a choice, you see.

32. HUGS OR KISSES?
Oh, the chocolate kind are the best. Don't like the ones with cream in the middle.

33. FAVOURITE DESSERT?
I have about 31 favorites, but I recently had Chris' Outrageous Chocolate Cake at The Cheesecake Factory, and I hit the jackpot!!!!!

34. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW?
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis, and Patient, Heal Thyself by Jordin Rubin.

35. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD?
Why, a mouse of course. Just kidding--don't have one.

36. WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON TV LAST NIGHT?
Nothing.

37. FAVOURITE SOUND?
Dogs barking non stop. Ha, ha just a joke.
Depends. Right now silence would be a symphony to my ears.
I love to hear my children's happy voices while they play in their rooms.
Beach sounds are so inviting and relaxing.

38. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES?
Gross. I hate beatles, especially the big, black flying kind. Rolling stones actually sounds kind of boring, but it might be relaxing. Only if they were small, though. I will leave the big ones to the angels. (don't worry I know the bug is really spelled beetle.)

39. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME?
From here, I guess Tennessee. I have never been out of the country. Would love to go to Scotland. But, as Steven Tyler says, "Dream on".

40. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT?
I home school. That should be worth something!! My hubby is the one with all the real talent.

41. WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was in some stale room with bright lights. Smelled like a band aid box if you ask me. It was in a hospital in Mesa AZ.

I hate the tagging part since I don't like putting pressure on anyone, but Staci, you are it. I am tired if reading about the healthiest pancakes. Stop mopping and dusting (yeah, right) and answer these questions!!!! :)

A Bit of Backtracking

Pin It Now!
Well, I had to do at least one post today since my sweet, hardworking hubby mentioned to me as he was heading out the door this morning that my blog should be up and running.

Well, it is old news but I have a new nephew as of March 4, just 3 days before my birthday!! Little Easton is so cute. Fresh babies just make me melt, but holding someone else's will have to do. My quiver is full.

Easton's household will be a busy one since he already has 18 month old identical twin brothers. Yikes, a house full of boys!!

So Frustrating!!

Pin It Now! For some time now I have been having picture-posting issues. It is driving me crazy!!

Too many pictureless posts in a row just doesn't suit my personal style. Okay now my keyboard isn't jiving with me. Guess I will take a hint and take a break for a while. When everything is working again I will have to do some major catching up!

32's Come and Gone

Pin It Now! Had a great birthday. Got to go on a date to The Cheesecake Factory with my husband. Last date was May of '07. Our gracious friends from church offered to keep our kids so we could go out. Would you believe it, they even gave us a Cheesecake Factory gift card. Oh my stars!!! I ordered the best tastin' steak ever. Oh, and their desserts are out of this world. I have had a few of their tasty treats before, but this time I hit the jackpot with Chris' Outrageous Chocolate Cake.--- As described on their menu: CHRIS' OUTRAGEOUS CHOCOLATE CAKE A Cheesecake Factory Original - Layers of Moist Chocolate Cake, Chewy Brownie, Toasted Coconut Pecan Filling and Creamy Chocolate Chip Coconut Cheesecake---YUM!!

Besides stylish gardening tools, an awesome date, and some birthday money, I acquired a few more wrinkles and spider veins. You can imagine how trilled I am. I am still clinging on to youth the best that I can, though. Still no gray hair. Will I be able to say that next year??? Oh please, I hope so!!!!

The "Accidental" Discovery of Uranus

Pin It Now! Before you all yawn a big yawn, I am writing about this amazing discovery because this greenish-blue planet was discovered by amateur astronomers--home schooled, amateur astronomers. We learned this during home school last year.

In 1781, German home schoolers, William Herschel and his sister Caroline, discovered Uranus purely by accident. On an ordinary day, these two kids were looking through one of their telescopes that William had actually built himself, and they noticed a light that looked more like a disc than a star. After several months of observation they realized it was indeed a planet and not a comet like they had originally thought.

This brother and sister became instantly famous!! They even got to name the planet. And I thought it was interesting that at first they didn't want to name it after a Roman god, which was tradition. They came from a devout Christian family and wanted to name the newly discovered planet after their king, George III. That didn't fly with everyone. Lots of folks wanted them to name it, Herschel, but unfortunately for some reason they did in fact choose to name it after another Roman god. I think it will be so neat to finally find out the real names of all of the planets God has made.

After their discovery the government paid them to be full time astronomers!! At the time they were both making money by singing and playing in the opera. (No, I don't think they had an astronomy certificate.) Caroline found many comets, and William discovered 2 of Saturn's moons, among other things. Eventually they did get something named after them. Mimas, one of the moons that William discovered has a huge crater that makes it look like the Star Wars "death star". Astronomers honored the work of the Herschels by naming this huge crater, Herschel crater.

Now isn't that just a snazzy, little home school story. I am on the prowl to find more!!!

One more thing--I know lots of very gifted people have been taught in the public schools too. I am not against public school. Just against gov. forcing parents to send their kids to it. I went to public school, ya know. (Hmm, maybe that is why I am not very gifted?? Oh well, that's another story. :))

My Child's Best Interest?

Pin It Now! Since I can't get the photos of my new nephew to load, I guess I will take this opportunity to step up onto my soapbox.

Last week my pastor briefly mentioned something about a California judge and home schooling. Of course, my ears perked right up. Then last night at my brother's house I heard about it once again on the local news. I would be lying if I denied that my heart was beginning to beat just a little faster and that my nose was flaring just a bit.

Before I officially whip the soapbox out and turn on my Stella voice, (you know, the skunk from Over the Hedge) I will clarify that I thankfully don't reside in California, but this could happen anywhere.

Okay, so a judge in California thinks that I need to be a "certified" teacher to be able to home school my children. Does this mean I get a real paycheck every week, too??

He also says it is in my child's best interest to attend a public school.

Ya know, last time I checked I didn't spend 27 months of my life pregnant, spend a day in drug-free, all natural labor, spend 4 years suffering from clogged ducts while sacrificing my time and body to feed my babies just to casually and blindly hand my kids over to the government.

Last time I checked, and my DNA would prove it, I am the MOMMA!!! And I take my God-given right to be a parent very seriously. Thanks, but no thanks, I don't need the government to tell me what is best for my children. If I do need advice, I will choose from whom I receive it.

It takes more than a certificate to be a good teacher.

How many teachers love their students so much that it hurts? How many teachers would die for their students? I am sure there are some, but I guarantee that I care more about my kids than they ever could. Parents should have a right to educate their own children at home.

While I have had many outstanding teachers that I will remember fondly for the rest of my life, I have had some pretty lousy ones as well. Teachers that had certificates. Teachers that were getting a paycheck. I remember my 9th grade algebra teacher. She spoke more about her personal problems and psychiatric drugs she was taking than math. The whole class suffered, but her solution to the problem was to just grade on a curve. By my grades one would have thought that I had mastered algebra 1, but the rest of my high school math life was screwed up, I believe, b/c of that teacher.

Had another teacher. My World History teacher in maybe 10th grade--can't remember. She had a certificate to teach. And her amazing methods involved students copying millions of vocabulary words and then having a test. In my humble opinion a chimpanzee could have done better than that. I can tell you I have already put forth way more effort than that in teaching my children history.

I have researched and studied my tail off to provide my kids with a super education. Government validation should not be required for parents to teach their own kids. Good grief, we are living in a country where parents can choose to kill their children with the silent weapon of abortion. I should be able to teach the ones I have chosen to bring into this world without the threat of government intervention. Crazy isn't it?

Go here to read about the real story and also to sign a petition.

Works For Me Wednesday: Backwards Edition

Pin It Now! Yea, I get to ask for advice this time!

Q: I would like advice on the best way to sell books. I want to clean out our book closet. I have a variety that I would like to sell--home school, baby and pregnancy, Christian Fiction, just to name a few.

I have had some recent success selling some vitamins on ebay but don't really know how well books will sell.

*Would selling on Amazon be a better option?

*Would I have a better chance of selling if I sold several books in one lot?

I know I could donate or freecycle, but I really don't want to. I donate a lot of stuff to charity, but I would like to make some extra money on the books since all are in great condition. Being a stay-at-home, home school mom I just don't have very many opportunities to make extra cash. Sure would be nice to have some, so if you can give me some advice on this I would greatly appreciate it!!!
