Future Starbucks Employee

Pin It Now!

2009-08-27 002

Every time I see my son making coffee for his dad, I can’t help but get a picture in my mind of Uncle Vernon’s purplish, bout-to-explode, walrus face bellowing, “Bring me my coffee, boy!” to poor, sweet, innocent, parentless Harry Potter.

Well, we certainly don’t force Mullin to meet our every desire, nor do we treat him like a common house elf around here, but he actually loves performing this act of service for his coffee lovin’ daddy!

Hmmm, ya never know, he could be getting paid to do this before long. Do I see some Green Tea Fraps on the house in the near future?! Wonder if Starbucks hosts field trips for home schooled kids? Guess I could check into that…

Clear Remedy Review #2

Pin It Now!

acne_trymekit_list

Well, I have been using Clear Remedy for about a month now, which means this 3-step acne treatment system has just gone through its greatest challenge: the PMS stage. Hate to be so up front, but truth is, I really do believe that so many of my life issues, including my skin, are due to the rise and fall of progesterone and estrogen in my body, and unfortunately my hormones put up a huge fight this month.

2009-08-18 003

I took this picture right in the midst of the battle. It seems that just one side of my face was breaking out, and I even got a zit on my nose, which hasn’t happened in ages! I admit, I was tempted to switch back to ProActiv, but I did stick with Clear Remedy.

I don’t think Clear Remedy is entirely to blame or even to blame at all. I always experience a huge amount of stress in August due to the return of a home school routine, so I am sure that had something to do with breaking out more than usual. Also, insomnia struck this month. Throw in a cold coming on, and that just makes for a disastrous complexion!

I think it’s important to note, that as of right now, my face has calmed down and is pretty much back to what I want to be “normal”. No lasting damage, and overall my skin has a nice, even tone.

Before I end this review, I would like to point out 2 Clear Remedy positives. One, I like the fact that the acne treatment lotion doesn’t bleach fabrics!! I found this out by accidentally squirting some on a dark colored shirt. Two, Clear Remedy isn’t harsh on my skin. I haven’t experienced dryness that can be so common when using products designed for acne prone skin.

Barbie House--Sort Of

Pin It Now!
Since Shiloh's diaper changing table didn't sell in 2 garage sales, I decided to put it back into her room as a barbie house. I say that lightly because I haven't done a thing to it except arrange the barbie furniture that Shiloh's great grandma made. Shiloh likes it, though, and that is all that matters! :)

I am not sure what exactly it is that I would like to do to it. I do have some ideas: maybe stick some wallpaper on the shelves, somehow attach curtains so they can be opened and closed?? Anyone have any ideas? CHEAP ideas for someone who has very little cash and very little experience in craftiness?? Hopefully some ideas that don't involve any tools, unless maybe a screw driver?? I am so not a tool kind of gal. :)

Seriously, I would love some ideas, so please share!

Works For Me Wednesday: Home Made Cilantro Salsa

Pin It Now!

Years ago at my mother-in-law's house in Tennessee, I tasted the best, most yummiest, home made salsa, and I have been making it ever since.

Home Made Cilantro Salsa

* 1 can mexican rotel
* 1 can southwestern tomatoes and jalepenos
* 1 can diced tomatoes
* fresh cilantro
* 2 tsp. minced garlic
* 1 tsp. cumin
* 1 tsp. olive oil
* 3 tsp. lemon juice
* 1/2 onion
* garlic salt to taste

** Mix all ingredients together in a blender. (Garlic salt is important!!!! Not too much and not too little-- You may have to do a few tastes to get it just right.) :)

I love to serve it with all natural blue corn chips but any will do. ENJOY!

Birthday Improvisation

Pin It Now!

About 30 minutes before Mullin’s birthday guests would be arriving, Mark announces that the blow-up water slide just isn’t working and it would be a no-go for the party. Talk about devastating news!!!!!! It’s HOT here in August, and we had no alternate plan. I felt so bad for Mullin, especially since last year his party got cancelled altogether due to chicken pox. :(

2009-08-15 010

After pizza and Oreo Delight, instead of the boys swimming and sliding the afternoon away went to the neighborhood park to shoot some hoops. That lasted about 30 minutes—it was just too HOT. (Oh, did I already say that?)

Passing the time opening up presents…

My sweeter-than-sweet sister filling up tons of water balloons while the boys were at the park.

2009-08-15 003

I was so proud of Mullin who just did his best to go with the flow, and it really wasn’t that bad having 9 boys in the house. :)

Clear Remedy Review #1

Pin It Now!

acne_3piecekit_list

I was recently asked to participate in an online review for IQ Derma’s Clear Remedy 3-Step Acne System. So, for the next 60 days I will be using the 3-step system along with the acne spot treatment and will be sharing my experiences with all of you!

Before I began treatment, I decided to snap a few photos to show the appearance of my skin pre-Clear Remedy. Honestly, I debated whether or not to even include them since my skin really isn’t that bad right now—well, except for the freckles. I have been a ProActiv user for about the past two years and have already seen a huge difference in the overall condition of my skin. Every month, though, I can still count on a minor break out due to my crazy2009-08-03 004, 30-something hormones. I also sometimes still suffer from what I call “end of the day pimples” -usually the kind that only I, and those who have dared to enter my forbidden circle of personal space, can see. I think I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that I will never have a perfect complexion.

August 2, marked the beginning of my 60 day trial. I am always leery of applying anything new to my face since my skin tends to be on the dry, sensitive side, but I was pleasantly surprised when I experienced neither burning nor irritation of any kind. I really like the smell of the Purifying Cleanser and Hydrating Lotion—it’s a very light, refreshing, citrusy scent.

2009-08-03 009

I have been using Clear Remedy for about a week now and am very pleased with the results. I’ve enjoyed waking up every morning to fresh, radiant skin. I did notice some redness around my mouth and chin area around day 3, but after applying extra hydrating lotion it went away pretty quickly.

Stay tuned as I continue to update my skin’s progress throughout this trial period. In the meantime if you would like to learn more about Clear Remedy or try it for yourself please visit IQ Derma’s website and take advantage of a special offer: Enter Promotion Code: GETCLEAR30 upon checkout and receive 30% off!

First “Official” Day Back to School

Pin It Now!

The first day back went pretty well. Will take a few days to completely get back into the swing of things. Firsts things first, though—I have to make a point to take pictures on the first day of each school year!!

2009-08-03 015

Mullin—first day of 5th grade. Almost 10

Subjects: Bible, All American History Volume 1, Math U See—Epsilon, Latina Christiana 2, Bob Jones English 5, Wise Guide for Spelling (U-3), Literature, Zoology 2—Swimming Creatures of the 5th Day, and this year we have added typing and vocabulary lessons.

2009-08-03 017

Lincoln—first day of 2nd grade. 7 1/2

Subjects: Same Bible, History, Science, Spelling (K-7) and Vocabulary. Math U See—Gamma, Reading (lots of diff. things—finishing Explode the Code, etc.), First Language Lessons, and also learning to write in cursive this year.

2009-08-03 013

Shiloh—first day of still being in pre-school. 4

We have a hodgepodge of goodies—I use the site, www.first-school.ws for a lot of things, starting Happy Phonics, using some Abeka materials, and reading lots and lots of books. She is so ready to read, so I HAVE to find the time to teach her! She incessantly asks me how to spell words. She often surprises me by spelling a few 3-letter words with fridge magnets. I absolutely love her eagerness. :-)

I am really going to try and get through most of our work by Thursday of each week, so we can spend an ample amount of time on creative writing on Fridays. Maybe we can slip in art and music every now and then, too. I want Fridays to be filled with all of the “extra” stuff. There are soooooooooo many things I want to do but just not enough time or energy to do them!
