I am interested in how you do this. Are you saying you only place the oil on your hair and blow dry, as usual, and that you don't have to hang out in the sun to make the highlights come out?

Thank you so much for this post. :)

Yes, I usually just blow dry. Although sun helps, too. :)

I have yet to use essential oils for anything as I don't have any, but I am intrigued by the fact that the lemon essential oil can be used as a hair lightener. I am a bit concerned about trying it though as my hair is dark brown.
Thanks for sharing on Throwback Thursday. I can't wait to see what you share this week.

Hi, just wondering if you tried this yet kewkew? As I too have darker brown hair.

Many thanks,
Jen :)

Thanks for sharing your method! I also like to use natural stuff like honey, lemons and essential oils for skin and hair care - and highlighting my hair. No coloring needed and my hair is healthier and has more volume than ever before in my life... :)

Works great on dark brown hair. More blonde then red unlike hair colors that you buy at stores. Would diffantly recommend not to meantion its not expensive and lemon essential oil has many other uses :)

Can't wait to try this, but I'll mix it with my conditioner since it's not safe to apply essential oils to your skin as you recommend - putting it on your fingers - without diluting them first. You risk over-sensitizing yourself and never being able to use lemon essential oil again. I'd rather not take the risk.

I have been using essential oils for years. My mom has applied the oils to my skin and it causes no harm. If I have a burn she will put levander essential oils on it, open cut, burn what ever! Some people have sensitive skin and any oil or lotion could irritate your skin. My older sister who is 20 has 67 allergies some life threatening, she also has really bad eczema. We use lavender essential oil on her and it soothed her skin down. You can dilute any essential of organic coconut oil. Coconut oil is also really good with hydrated your skin and hair.

Hello do you have to wash this out, if I just use plain lemon essential oil? Or is it to be left in?

Brandi said...

I don't wash it out.

Could I use a hairdryer instead of the sun?
Lol its black as and havent had sun for days.

Most of the time I use my hair dryer because it is more convenient, but sitting in the sun is probably more effective. I try to remember to put lemon oil in my hair if I'm going to sit out in the sun. :)
