"Why" Wednesday

Pin It Now! Why are people so inconsiderate?? More specifically, how can neighbors be so inconsiderate?

I am not perfect but I really do try to be a considerate neighbor.

We have had some pretty "ruff" nights since moving into our neighborhood. I won't spend a lot of time rehashing the whole deal since Mark already posted our dilemma on his blog some time ago. (We have had issues with dog barking.) The barking seemed to improve a little after I decided to talk to two of our neighbors about the problem, but obviously the slacking has begun again. The main problem is the fact that we are surrounded by folks who have built-in doggie doors in their houses, so their dogs come and go as they please. When you've got like 5 or 6 dogs barking right outside your window, there is no chance of going to sleep!!!! Or like today---I rarely ever lay down during the day, but after not having decent sleep for the past week, due to various reasons not just dogs, I have tried to sleep during Shiloh's nap for the past 2 days. No luck. Why? DOGS BARKING. It started at 1:30, and I believe I still hear it. It is 3:15 now.
I have tried to be kind and patient, but I have had it. My blood is boiling. I finally called the authorities this Monday, but an officer still hasn't been by to talk to me yet. They are supposed to give me a barking log to start filling out. If things don't get better, I have to be ready to go to court. Please, haven't I been inconvenienced enough? I wish I had a tape recorder to set outside or something, so the authorities could just hear it for themselves. I am a Christian, and I have been one for a long time, but right now my flesh wants so badly to open my window and spew curses!!!
How would the neighbors like it if I played Christian music really loud all the time or if I let Shiloh scream outside in the middle of the night? I bet they would call the cops right then and there to make me stop. Why do I have to jump through hoops to get their dogs to stop barking at all hours?
I guess I better stop. My keyboard has taken enough of a beating for today! Oh, and if anyone has any suggestions (besides a gun) I am all ears!

how do people who have dogs put up with the barking in their own yard? my dogs only bark if someone comes to their kennel. i might have to kill them if they barked incessantly.

A lot of the time these dogs are barking when our neighbors aren't home. As for at night our next door neighbors claim that they don't hear it. I think their bedroom is in the front of their house, while our window faces their backyard. Last night their dogs barked from about 8:30-9:30pm, and they also woke me up a few times during the night. Words cannot describe how put out I am!

OH, MY GOODNESS!!! I COULD'VE WRITTEN THIS BLOG POST MYSELF!!! I have the VERY SAME complaint and it is never ending! I've been 'dealing with it' for years! Same neighbor, same dog, right behind us. I have called and complained to the 'noise complaint' dept but that's done a fat lot of good. Of course, they are only open from 8-5 Mon-Fri which is not when I need to complain because I am not home then. It's at 6 a.m. or 11 p.m. or Sat. morning at 7:30 or Sun. night at midnight. If I had the home phone numbers of the 'noise complaint' people I would call them at the times I am being awakened or kept awake and then maybe they would "GET IT" of how annoying, frustrating and maddening this is. Too bad if I don't need to wake up at 6 or 6:30 a.m., no choice, the dog is barking. Too bad if I had just gotten to sleep at 11 p.m., wake up 'cuz the dog is barking. Too bad if I wanted to sleep in on Sat. until 8 or 9, wake up at 7 because the dog is barking. I did, however, do the 'unchristian' deed one time of stepping out on my back porch about 10 pm one night and screaming "LET YOUR DOG IN THE HOUSE!!!" which is very mild considering what I REALLY wanted to do! I have seriously considered getting a good tape recorder and taping the hours long barking then finding out which window is their bedroom and about 4 a.m. one morning, go out there and blast a loudspeaker of said barking toward that window for about 7 days in a row. Think they'd get the message??? If you find a solution that works, please feel free to pass it on to me! By the way, when you did 'speak' to those neighbors about it, what did you say? And what was their response?

Hey jg,
I believe it was this past June when I went to talk to the people that live behind us. I went after a 3 hour barking episode from about 2am-5am on a week night. Despite having a root canal the following morning, I confronted them very nicely saying please do something about your dogs--they are keeping me up at night. Things seemed to get better for a while, but thing is if they are gone, their dogs just come out through their doggie door and BARK,BARK,BARK!! It is after Animal Control hours, the police say it is up to Animal Control, and since the people who own the dogs aren't home, we can't go and tell them to shut their dogs up!
I talked to the neighbors beside us a few days after that about their dogs, and they seemed so sorry and such, but the past few weeks have been terrible. Mark and I both called Animal Control again, and they told me they would send someone out hopefully by the beginning of next week. They are short on officers till then. Great, I guess I will have another sleepless weekend.

you should be able to call the police dept (auntiej) regardless of the time and have an officer come out at any point. but unless they hear the noise, you probably wont hear or see them. animal control is the only other option. though from what i know, they cant really do a whole lot. they cant really enforce anything strongly enough until after you've had to take it to court. (dont ask me why i know these things). although if the cops do come out, they can get a ticket (and that really just depends on the officer)... that helps if you request for the leuitenant (sp) to repsond.

We struggled with this for years. Wanna borrow my tape recorder? Purchased it just for this very problem. Problem is now solved...

Did you tape the noise and play it back for them at full blast volume? One of my friends who had this problem said that she solved it by spraying the dog with the water hose when he barked. The water is harmless to the dog but it finally gets came to understand that if he barked, she would squirt him with water and apparently, he didn't like water, so he finally quit! But she had an open chain link fence where she could see the dog easily and spray the water through on him. Her problem was also because the owner wasn't home and didn't hear the noise and couldn't let it in. My neighbors, however, ARE home when the dog is barking because he's an indoor dog, they just let him out to 'do his business' and then seem to forget he's out there. But he doesn't just bark to be let in, he starts barking the instant that sliding glass door starts to open and doesn't quit until he goes in. Oh, he takes a break to catch a breath every now and then, but not much. So, since they are home when he's barking, I'm afraid they will call the police on ME if I squirt their dog with my water hose (which I have been severely tempted to do, since I can't even stand out there and water my flowerbeds in peace). So much for having a nice, peaceful hammock and covered swing if you can't enjoy them due to the neighbors dog barking incessantly. I'm like Brandi - how can people be SO BLASTED INCONSIDERATE???? I have thought about calling the police but I hesitate every time because I really hate to bother them with something that can seem so 'minor' in the grand scheme of the crime world! But really now! Aren't I entitled to some peace and quiet in my OWN HOME?????

I guess it is about time for me to reveal my true identity. I am not a pureblood. I am part elf. The Lord of the Rings kind, not the Snow White kind.

That would explain a few things.

Buy a cheap tape recorder, record several hours of barking, get the biggest boombox you can find, set it up at 10PM (or whatever time would be most offensive)in your backyard facing the inconsiderate neighbors yard and let it run through til the end. Repeat as needed.
