Guess it's time for an update...

Pin It Now! Our current status according to the government is still POOR, but that doesn't mean I don't have some good news to report.

First of all, I really do have peace in the midst of this storm. And I know God is building some serious character in me. Hmmm, this could take a while.

Anyway, we finally made it to the Arizona Department of Economic Security a few weeks ago, which by the way, was a pretty interesting place. Glad Mark was there with me. Really it wasn't that bad. A few folks looked as if they were probably in the same boat we are in, but then others, unfortunately, looked like they had probably been in and out all of their lives. Made me thank God once again for the wonderful family with which we've been blessed, because if it wasn't for all the help we received from them, we'd be a lot worse off.

So begins a new phase in our personal economic crisis--the SNAP phase. I never thought I would be ecstatic over food stamps, now known as SNAP, but when ya got mouths to feed it really doesn't matter. I think I have gotten over the embarrassment factor, I think. One thing I am grateful for is the fact that I can buy CHOCOLATE with my SNAP card. Now that news is Hallelujah Chorus worthy!!!! Can anyone guess what my first chocolate purchase was?

The kids and I survived 2 months without health care coverage. Not one single episode, praise God!! We've got the government health care now. And funny thing is, we will finally be able to take care of some things that we couldn't afford to do pre-job loss. Crazy.

Last but not least our mortgage company has agreed to work with us, so we will not be homeless.

God surely is teaching me that being rich doesn't really have anything to do with money, but that's another post at a later time.

oh snap! - M&Ms?

I remember going down to the Tenn Care place in the old hood by Treadwell HS. I waited for hours with a similar crowd only to meet with my "counselor" and have her reject me for any assistance. That year we aquired $12,000 in medical bills in 6 months time (we had health insurance - just not enough). But God provided - in a really strange way - but he provided!

Thanks for the update. I have been thinking of you often. God really does work in mysterious ways doesn't he?!

Thinking of you,

Indeed, being truly "rich" has little to do with money. Some of the happiest people I've ever seen were "dirt poor" as we call it. And likewise, some of the most miserable people I've ever seen had plenty.

I have absolutely no problem with my tax dollars (and YOURS that you've paid all these years) going to help folks in your situation, who do the very best they can and work hard and be responsible but happen upon hard times due to circumstances totally beyond their control, none whatsoever. It's those that choose to live their entire lives off that system that get under my skin! :) Feel no embarrassment, much of the money in that system was paid into it by your own working spouse over the past many years - you're just reaping some of it back now in your time of need! :)

Glad to see that the Lord is showing you how He can provide, no matter what!

I once heard poor described as "having no one to love"...based on that definition, you are one RICH lady! :-)

i am a friend of your brothers. I started looking at your blog just to try to see pictures of his kids (since they didn't join the world of internet till recently). Anyway, I have grown to admire you as a mom and as a christian. I look forward to seeing all the activities you do with your kids, all the bible lessons you do with them. I book mark alot of it for when my boys are older- "sword fighting". Anyway, I'm so sorry to hear about your time of need of need right now. I know that you and your family will learn so much during this time. But also know, that there are lots of people reading your blog that are learning from your example and coming closer to God through your journey! God Bless you and yours!
