WFMW: Free Typing Lessons for Kids

Pin It Now!

I home school and I am on a tight budget, so free is good right now! My oldest is now a big fifth grader, and I knew I wanted him to learn how to type the "right" way at an earlier age than I did.

I found a web site called Freetypinggame.net and it is working great for my 10 yr. old and for me, too! There are 30 lessons, which my son completes at his own pace. He can also choose how many words he wants to be able to type in one minute. He starts out with reachable goals so he doesn't get too frustrated. Sometimes he will even re-do lessons with which he is having trouble. The site also offers typing games and even tests. I love the fact that there is no preparation on my part, and my son can do it completely by himself. He actually enjoys his typing class. :)

Any child who is still typing like a turtle can benefit, of course, not just the home schooled ones!

Thanks so much for sharing this! I am going to bookmark that site for my daughter who is showing an interest in learning to type. The "free" part is fabulous!

Hey Autumn, thanks for the link! I'm with you -- always looking for free homeschooling resources. (I keep a list of them at Homeschooling for Free if you're interested.) I've found several free typing programs/games too but I don't think I found this one yet, so I'll have to add it to the list!
