Inspirational Easter Storybooks
Isn't it fun to pull out seasonal and holiday picture books? I think so! My kids are older now, but these 2 books are a couple of my favorite Easter ones. Saving for grandkids (hopefully) one day. :)The Parable of the Lily by Liz Curtis Higgs
The Parable of the Lily: Special 10th Anniversary Edition (Parable Series)This is a lovely book appropriate for kids ages 3-7. (We own a hardback copy.)
From the back of the book: The Parable of the Lily begins with a mysterious gift on a gray wintry day and ends one spring morning with a joyous discovery. The gentle farmer from The Pumpkin Patch Parable lovingly helps his young daughter, Maggie, understand the power of grace and forgiveness and the true meaning of Easter.
At the bottom of most of the pages, there are bible verses depicting the life and purpose of Jesus. The bible verses also correlate to the events going on in the book.
The Legend of the Easter Egg by Lori Walburg
The Legend of the Easter EggThis is a wonderful story appropriate for kids ages 4-8. (We own a hardback copy.)
From Amazon: Featuring the beloved setting and characters from the best-selling Legend of the Candy Cane, this moving story about Thomas and Lucy takes us deeper into the mystery of Christianity. When his older sister Lucy falls sick, Thomas goes to stay with John and Mary Sonneman at their candy store. But all the candy he could desire does not cure Thomas's aching heart. Only when Mary Sonneman shares with him the story of Easter does he understand the hope he has -- and what he can do for his sister.
The last page of the book features information about the traditions and symbols of Lent and Easter. I recommend adding both of these timeless stories to your holiday book collection. I think you'll enjoy reading these fiction stories that incorporate the true meaning of Easter. :)
Hands-On Devotional and Activity
My kids looked so forward to going through this devotional and egg activity every single spring!Resurrection Eggs: The Easter Story for Children
Resurrection Eggs 12-Piece Easter Egg Set with Religious Figurines InsideFrom Amazon:
- Send your children on a hunt that will lead them to the true treasure of Easter
- Read the story together, open each egg, and find the surprise inside - a symbol of Jesus journey to the cross
- A great way to connect while reliving the events of those history-changing hours
- Includes 1 egg carton, 12 plastic eggs with improved symbols inside, 1 beautifully illustrated, bilingual storybook and 1 set of colorful stickers
How we used Resurrection Eggs: About 2 weeks before Easter, we'd pull these eggs out and use them during our morning devotion before homeschool. It was kind of like our countdown to Easter. We would only open 1 egg per day, and my kids would take turns doing this. Along with opening the egg and finding an Easter symbol, we'd read the appropriate section of Scripture and then read the accompanying devotion.
It was a super fun way to prepare for Easter. A great memory for my kids and me. :) Amazon ranks it as a #1 best seller in kids' party games and crafts. I highly recommend it!
How do you and your kids like to prepare for and celebrate Easter?
