Celebrating July 4th

When I think of July 4th, I think of freedom, fireworks, and fun food. My favorite thing about all holidays are the traditions they inspire. We don't have a lot for this particular holiday, but we do have a couple.

Freedom & Fireworks

I am extremely thankful for the freedoms we enjoy in America, but July 4th isn't my favorite holiday. Mostly because of the fireworks. I very much dislike any type of fireworks before 9 p.m. on the ACTUAL holiday and after 10 p.m. on the ACTUAL holiday.

Why yes, it is probably pretty appropriate to nickname me the July 4th Fuddy Duddy. ;)

We used to go see fireworks at our church when my kids were little, but we almost always stay home now. Away from crazy crowds.

Traditions:

Food  I'm always up for a theme, so my favorite part about the Fourth of July is the tradition of making pretty red, white, and blue food. And I like to try different things each year. Here are a few things we've tried . . .

It's always fun to add festive flare to delicious Fudge-Filled Bars.

Patriotic Watermelon Stars taste light and refreshing.

And these bakery-style M&M cookies are the best!

Oh, I almost forgot about these Red, White, and Blue Breakfast Sundaes I made one year.

Tomorrow, I will try these firecracker cupcakes that I found on Pinterest. You'll have to follow me on instagram to see how they turn out!

 Kid Pic

I started taking an annual kid photo on July 4th back in 2007. Below is the very first one I took. My only regret is that I didn't start sooner!

I can't believe I will be taking the 11th July 4th photo tomorrow. Over the years, my kids have become less enthusiastic about getting their annual picture taken, but I hope they will appreciate my efforts in years to come. You can see our decade of 4th photos by clicking the link above.

What about you? What are your favorite July 4th traditions?

MAKING CHRIST LORD OF YOUR LIPS WITH FREE 28-PAGE WORKBOOK – OVERFLOW OF THE HEART

By Esther  at Chosen & Cherished

Esther shares a great resource this week. My favorite line: "To change our speech, the words we use, the tone we use, and the motivation of our words, we have to get to the heart of the issue." Want to learn more? Be sure to check out this post! It will bless you.

My Favorite Post of the Week

Anxiety and worry have always been sin struggles for me. Trusting God and leaning not on my own understanding is a daily battle. Over the years I've tried to replace worrisome thoughts with prayers and praises. This practice has totally helped keep the worry weeds at bay. Like I mentioned before, this is a DAILY battle!

Visit Julie's post to read about 4 ways in which to combat those weeds of worry. Be encouraged on how you can destroy the strongholds of anxiety and live with full confidence in God.
